Star midfielder completes Arsenal medical and may debut in upcoming Premier League tie
Soon to be ex-Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny is reportedly on the fringes of completing his drawn out transfer to Arsenal today, with Sky Sports suggesting the 23-year-old could even play a part in Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Stoke City.
According to the report, Elneny is in London completing a four-and-a-half year contract that will see him become the Gunners first winter signing. It is thought he has completed a medical and if the deal is wrapped up, he may be in line to feature at the Britannia Stadium this weekend in what is always a feisty encounter.
Arsene Wenger remained optimistic the deal would be completed this week, citing work permit problems as the reason for the hold up to date (via Sky Sports).
The long awaited transfer of the Egypt international will provide a welcomed boost to the Gunners midfield that has endured their fair share of injury set backs. Francis Coquelin’s serious injury forced Wenger’s hand before Christmas and the deal for Elneny has been a long time coming.
Stay tuned for more updates as the deal nears completion.
