Sen Uche Ekwunife's Agenda Is To Destabilize APC - Uchegbu

A prominent politician and member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Idemili federal constituency, Anambra, Mrs Adaobi Kate Uchegbu has condemned the recent decampment of former Senator Uche Ekwunife representing Anambra Central Senatorial District from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The former senator was sacked by the Court of Appeal in Enugu on December 7, 2015. In its ruling the court affirmed that Uche Ekwunife’s selection as the senatorial candidate of the PDP was irregular and nullified her election. The appellate court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections within 90 days.
However, in a swift move to keep her political career alive, the former senator decamped to the All Progressive Congress (APC) and quickly made her intentions clear to be the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming senatorial election.
Reacting to this move by Uche Ekwunife, Adaobi Uchegbu in a chat with Naij.com in Abuja described it as a ‘shameful act on the part of the senator to have decamped to APC after all she did against the party during the last elections in 2015′.
“It is a shameful act on the part of Senator Uche Ekwunife to have decamped to APC. Does she really think that APC members are fools? This is a woman who branded President Buhari a terrorist. This was a woman that rigged out Senator Ngige during the last senatorial elections in 2015.”
Condemning the former senator, Mrs Adaobi Uchegbu said that investigations has showed that Ekwunife is pursuing a dangerous agenda.
“This was a woman that supported the call of a separationist group from South east. Everyone noticed that she never spoke on the floor of the Senate against the Southeast separationist group. This was a woman who supported the motion to invite President Buhari to the Senate so as to address them on the fuel scarcity challenges.
“It has been investigated that Senator Ekwunife is coming to APC so as to pursue a dangerous agenda. She is coming to APC to destabilize the efforts of President Buhari especially in his fight to rid Nigeria of corruption,” Mrs Adaobi Uchegbu said.
Fielding questions on how Sen Ekwunife’s decision to contest under the APC could favour the party considering that Sen. Chris Ngige who is now a minister seems to be the major contender when the now cancelled election was first held, Mrs Uchegbu said Ekwunife;s decampment to APC only makes people feel further disenchanted from the federal government. Uchegbu further posited that the people are now poised to give all their votes to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
“The people of Anambra central senatorial district are not impressed with Senator Ekwunife’s decampment to APC. Actually, it seems that the people feel further disenchanted from the Federal government because of her recent action. They are now poised to give all their votes to APGA. This recent action has further jeopardized the chances of APC in this election.
“We had already started campaigning to our people that the south east was going to get back their lost Senate presidency seat through Senator Ngige and APC. But unfortunately, Ekwunife’s decampment has only led the voters into the arms of APGA.
“That is why we are convinced that Uche Ekwunife has come into APC to destabilize the genuine efforts of President Buhari to reintegrate the Igbo back to the Centre. It has been observed that Uche Ekwunife could have retained her PDP ticket just by talking to her good friend, former president, Goodluck Jonathan. But she chose to play the role of a spoiler by being sponsored by vested interests. These vested interests do not want a change in the present Senate leadership.”
She however reaffirmed her trust in the party’s leadership to do the right thing and not let the situation deteriorate to handing over the party’s senatorial ticket to an opportunist.
“I believe that my party, APC will conduct a free and fair primaries in Anambra state and the delegates will not foolishly hand over the senatorial ticket to an opportunist.
“Be rest assured that the party leadership will do the right thing. They are already collating opinions from every side in this impasse. Thank you,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, Senator Uche Ekwunife has shed more light on why she decamped to the APC.
.
Addressing her supporters in Akwa, Ekwunife expressed her disappointment adding that since after the court judgement, the party leadership has neither condemned the verdict nor initiated any plan to correct the anomaly as stated by the appeal court notwithstanding that the period when such action could be taken before the conduct of the ordered repeat poll by the court was almost running out.
