Here’s What Happened at Omilola’s inaugural “Do It Afraid” Conference
The debut edition of “Do It Afraid” Conference themed ‘Are You a Moth or a Butterfly, Which Would You Rather Be‘ left all who attended geared up for 2016. The conference which took place on Sunday, 6th December 2015 was organised by Omilola Oshikoya International based on the mantra “Do It Afraid”, a movement, aimed at inspiring this generation to fulfil their dreams, visions and purposes by overcoming fear.
The
Butterfly and the Moth are very similar in terms of their anatomy and
life cycle (also known as metamorphosis) however there are a few
differences. A Moth lives at night, is attracted to artificial light and
is dull coloured while a Butterfly, lives during the day, gets its
energy for flight from the sun and is vividly coloured. This basically
means there are two paths to life, the way of the Moth which is the
boring, unfulfilled life or the way of the Butterfly which is the
fulfilled, purposeful life. Most people want to live the fulfilled life
however they are unable to because of fear which comes in different
forms. What they fail to realise is that fear is part of the process. It
is important to face your fears and live a life of purpose.
The major highlight at the conference was the interactive panel discussion anchored by Bolatito Bez Idakula
(Radio Anchor and Founder of My Lighthouse) where speakers shared
personal experiences on how they overcame fear and pursued their dreams
against all odds.
The panelists were Cobhams Asuquo, Award winning Music Producer, Singer & Writer; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Lecturer Department of Jurisprudence & International Law at University of Lagos; Jimi Tewe, Career Coach, Author & Speaker; Dr. Ola Orekunrin, CEO of Flying Doctors of Nigeria and Premier Life Coach & Psychologist.
The Catalyst, Lanre Olusola held a practical session on “The Psychology of Fear and How to Overcome It.”
According to Lanre Olusola, “The way you see the problem is actually
the problem, with fear perception is stronger than reality”.
Africa’s
Premier Wealth Coach and Founder of “Do It Afraid”, Omilola Oshikoya
spoke on The Beautiful Butterfly. The beautiful butterfly, represents
the fulfilled or purpose driven life. The butterfly like the moth also
goes through a process however the outcome is what is different. The
purposeful life is not without its challenges however; it is the
preferred option. In order to live the purposeful life, you would have
to face your fears and do it afraid. “It is important that we do that
thing that we are afraid of as the thing that you are afraid of is most
likely the thing that would set you free” – Omilola Oshikoya
The conference ended with 40 participants at various stages receiving free coaching on how to get rid of the fear.
